Self Entitlement

Sexual Self-Entitlement

We all know someone who has a sense of self-entitlement.  Whether it be at work, a friend, team mate on a sports team, gym buddy or even dare I say it a church member.

In the bible we read that Peter begs us to abstain from fleshly  lust that wars against the soul (1 Peter 2:11).  Paul tells us that we are not to live according to the flesh because we will satisfy our desires.  Rather we are to focus on living according to God’s principles (Romans 8:5-6).  Here Paul notes that living by the flesh involves behaviours that are sexual.  Such behaviours include using pornography, having sex before marriage, or having sex outside of marriage.

Pornography involves a lot of deceit.  You will have to keep your device ‘clean’ by deleting the history of sites visited, you will be absent from your wife or girlfriend while you view pornography.  It creates ‘gaps of time’ where you will need to lie to explain why you are absent.   Time spent looking at pornography during study time, family time or work hours is time stolen from these pursuits.   You are stealing time from yourself, your family or employer (or business if self-employed.)

Sex outside of God’s plan (marriage) is wrong from a Christian perspective.  I believe that we intentionally lie to ourselves to allow sex to be ‘ok’ within the relationship.  We tell ourselves that “We’re allowed to have sex before marriage because we plan on getting married.”  Another common lie is that “God created us to enjoy sex.”   While God did create sex for enjoyment; it was made for married couples to enjoy.  You are wrong if you and your girlfriend think that because God created sex for married couples that you can enjoy sex outside of His plan (marriage.)

When you sleep with someone who is not your wife you are being self-entitled.  You are choosing to have sex with someone who you have no right to have sex with.  It is selfish behaviour because it is for your physical benefit. You are putting your ‘wants’ above God’s plan for your life and her life.  You are also putting your ‘wants’ above her family’s wish for her to find a future husband and settle down with him.  Trust me…. I have daughters and I don’t want them being used sexually be some males for their ‘needs’ to be met. I want my daughters to marry a man who will love them as God intended.  As I’m sure you do too.

God made us to live according to His plans in the Bible.  If you’re struggling with pornography, lust, sexual sin, and you would like to break free…  Be encouraged, it is possible.  My life has changed because I put my faith in God and sought support.  I overcame my addictions.  My addictions were a significant reason for my marriage ending.    Don’t throw away your life plans for sex, porn, or lust.   The consequences are real, life changing, and the consequences will be with you for the rest of your life.  Break free now while you can.
