Porn Adverts Often Represent Your Web History
Porn adverts are based on website history. If you’re reading this blog, you are probably using the internet to access porn or sexual relationships. Maybe both? You know that the more you access porn online the more pornographic adverts appear in your ‘feed.’
When I used the internet to access porn and websites that promoted easy sex, I was careful to delete the browser history or use ‘incognito’ mode. I guess you could say this was the internet version of cleansing my conscience.
The other week a mate was showing me a video on his social media profile. Near the end of the video, he paused it. ‘Somehow’ an advert for a porn website appeared online. Everyone was lost for words. It was put down to the ‘rise of pornography online and the filth that exists online.’
I have a suspicion though that the advert for the porn site reflected his website history. Adverts in this day and age are based on our search history. If we search online for restaurants, we will have a lot of adverts appear for restaurants. If we search online for cars, we will have a lot of adverts appearing for cars. Conversely if we search for porn then we will get adverts for porn sites.
I asked myself ‘Has the internet became an extension of our minds?’ What we want is what we search for. We have heard of the 7 deadly sins: pride, greed, hatred, envy, lust, gluttony, and laziness. These can be seen in our website search history and web adverts.
Porn and sexual sins are really hard to break free from. We know what we’re doing is wrong. This is why we delete our web search history. It is why we don’t want other people to use our laptop, iPad, or phone. We don’t want to get caught out. It is our personal secret. After all it is ‘only porn.’ In these actions we are unknowingly showing that we admit that porn is wrong. We don’t want our significant other to learn that we’ve been viewing porn, we don’t want our boss to know that we’ve been using work computers to view porn. We know it’s wrong.
How then do we seek help? The first decision is to confess to God the sin of engaging in lustful activity (porn, sex outside of marriage etc.). 1 John 1:9 states “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
The second step is to talk about your problem to a trusted person. By confessing your sin to another person, you have helped break the power of that sin over your life. This is where we can help. We have ‘been there and done that…’ We know what you are going through. The habit is really difficult to break by yourself. If not impossible. If your conscience is telling you to delete your website history and that others are not to use your technology device then your conscience is also telling you that you are knowingly ashamed and embarrassed of your behaviour.
