Let us search out and examine our ways, and turn back to the Lord; – Lamentations 3:40
This verse challenges me because the assumption is that we have done something wrong. That we are to look at our behaviour and thoughts. Then turn back to God.
The writer of Lamentations knew that one was responsible for their decisions. Furthermore, our personal actions have consequences.
As a former porn addict I witnessed my relationship with my then wife end because of my porn use. I saw my relationship with my children affected along with a host of other relationships. I also suffered financially through the divorce and my employment opportunities were cut short too. My life ended up being a mess. This is the trouble with all addictions. We think we have it under control and that no one knows about it. We think we have a secret.
Yet there are consequences to our behaviour. Sooner or later cracks will appear in our behaviour and someone or several people will have an insight into our addiction.
It is better for our sake and the relationships that we value that we examine ourselves. We need to then humbly acknowledge our addiction and seek help. A problem shared is a problem halved. This is why this ministry is effective. Once we have the courage to seek help we are in a better place straight away. No Longer Broken uses a counselling programme developed by a former porn user.
