Empty Nest
I’m listening to a Christian radio show about ‘empty nest syndrome.’ The hosts are discussing strategies for couples to use when their children leave home.
My children have all left the nest. As did the person who I married. This is the person who I promised to ‘love in sickness an in health, till death do us apart.’
I can’t blame her for leaving.
I would wait until she was in bed before accessing online porn. I also chose to watch porn in the garage instead of spending time with her. I downloaded a web browser that didn’t record my web history. I had my strategies to access porn and hide my addiction from her.
The addiction grew. From softcore porn to hardcore porn. When that no longer satisfied my lust for sexual gratification I became an adulterer.
Adultery totally destroyed my marriage vows. It is no surprise that my marriage didn’t survive adultery.
At what point in time could my marriage have been saved? I believe it could have been saved at any point before the adultery if I had sought help with my addiction.
If you are married; do you want your marriage to end the same way as mine? If you keep on viewing porn that could be the likely outcome. If you are yet to marry do you want to take the baggage of pornography into your marriage? Why have porn as a reference point for sex with your future wife?
I wish I could turn back the clock. I would never have started watching porn. I can’t turn back the clock. But I have sought help with my porn addiction. It hasn’t always been easy. Trust me it is difficult to both give up porn and stay free from porn. But it is worth it. It is 110% worth the effort to give up pornography.
Let your empty nest syndrome occur when your children leave home to start their own adult lives. Don’t let your empty nest syndrome be the same as mine. Don’t let your porn addiction ruin your marriage and your relationship with your children. It’s not worth it. I know what it’s like being addicted to porn. I used the same lies to hide my addiction. I have lost a lot personally. I don’t want to see you end up in my situation.
