Don’t be like Adam or Eve
Genesis 3 the story of Adam and Eve’s sin. One decision and one act led to humanity living in a broken and sinful world.
I have spent many hours wondering what life would be like if they hadn’t sinned and we were all living in the Garden of Eden? I have also found myself blaming Adam and Eve for their sin as it resulted in the broken world we live in.
I realise this is pointless for two reasons: Firstly I can’t go long without sinning. If Adam hadn’t eaten the fruit, then I would have. Secondly, during a recent bible study I had a revelation that I am not to be like Adam or Eve. Specifically, that when I sin I am not to encourage others to engage in the same behaviour (which is what Eve did) and that I am not to blame others for my decision (which is what Adam did.)
What then am I to do? Acts 3:19 provides the answer. I am to repent from my sins and turn to God.
One of the reasons why the Bible is God’s manual for our lives is because it is honest about human nature. The Bible contains stories and characters that show human nature at its worst. It is real. The people in it are just like you and I. We decide to engage in sinful behaviour, behaviour that many of us hope that our parents, spouse and children never find out about.
The only person in the Bible without sin is Jesus. He also willingly died for your sins and rose again on the 3rd day. If you were to see Jesus tomorrow…. What would He say to you about your behaviour?
