I read an article that noted that ‘high functioning alcoholics may not know that they are alcoholics.’
This does make sense. We all know people who drink excessively yet deny that they have a problem. They have a job and outwardly their lives look good. But we know that they enjoy a ‘drink.’ That they drink too much. We wish that they knew this too.
Is this the same with those involved in sexual sins such as pornography or adultery? I ask this question because when I was involved in sexual sins I denied (to myself) that it was an issue. Yet I viewed porn online every evening, I was lustful in my looks towards some women and I slept with woman who I was not married to.
I shudder to think ‘how many people knew about my sexual sins?’
God’s Word is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow (Hebrews 13:8.) As such what God said was sinful in the Old Testament is still sinful today. The Bible, the world’s best-selling book defines what is sinful behaviour. And the only sexual activity permitted in the bible is between husband and wife. This is the standard. Everything else is wrong. Pornography is wrong, adultery is wrong and looking lustfully at someone is wrong.
Do not look at yourself as an alcoholic does and say that you don’t have an addiction when you know you have an addiction. This behaviour is pointless. Especially when God wants to help you break free from your addiction. King David repented for his sexual sin and God forgave him. God was waiting for him to confess and repent.
